This year, 32 students took part in the summer school, coming from 14 different countries, speaking at least 11 different languages and with 15 different study programmes. They worked together, with great enthusiasm, on assignments within sustainability for 8 days.

The summer school had an interactive and lively program with site visits, excursions, lectures and working groups. Using subprojects of the redesign of the Utrecht railway station area, the students worked with Design Thinking on sustainable solutions for areas and buildings within CU2030. Within sustainability, the emphasis was on acquiring knowledge and being able to apply it:

- Circular economy; material and value flows in cities

- Energy and carbon accounting: calculating CO2 footprint

- Healthy urban development: scan for positive and negative effects

- Mobility: applying the SUMO model to learn more about influencing behaviour

Students had a good time, teachers too. A successful summer school in which a seed was planted to include sustainability in their own professional development.
